Notion was formally incorporated in 2013 by Ivan Zhao and Simon Last, but the product officially launched in 2016 after several pivots. Ivan Zhao, born in Hangzhou, China, had a passion for design from an early age and wanted to create a tool that was both as flexible as a database and as beautiful as a notebook.
